According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the priority order in waste management is: prevention, reduction at the source, reuse, recovery/recycling, pre-treatment, and disposal.
Compared to 2006, the average per capita municipal solid waste generation is 1.06 kg/person/day.

Turkey’s municipal solid waste disposal facilities have been divided into regions. This is due to the rapidly increasing costs and the fact that smaller municipalities would not be able to manage on their own. A Regional Waste Management Action Plan has been prepared and put into practice. Within this framework, the waste management sector is planned to operate nationwide through regional facilities.
The number of municipal solid waste disposal facilities: 2003: 15, 2010: 59, and is planned to increase to 130 by 2012.
