General Introduction to Plastic Packaging
PLASTIC PACKAGING
Plastic packaging is produced by processing various products derived from petroleum refineries in petrochemical plants. Globally, only 4% of the total petroleum produced is used for plastic production. Of this 4%, only 3% is used for the production of plastic packaging. Plastics have become increasingly preferred in the packaging industry because they allow more packaging to be produced with less material and offer ease of shaping.
The use of plastics in packaging applications began after World War II. Plastic packaging, which became widely used in the 1950s, has gained momentum and increased significantly from the 1970s to the present day.
