The fourth sustainable ecosystem Day organized by Istanbul Technical University Environment club and attended by Yavuz Eroğlu, the founding president of the club, was held between 04-05 April 2013.

On the first day of the event, Yavuz Eroğlu, who was elected to the presidency of Turkey, Middle East and Africa of the Waste Free Oceans movement, which was launched in Europe in June 2012 to clean the world coast from waste, spoke. Eroğlu, who is a graduate of ITU and also one of the founders of Itu environmental club, stated that they aim to clean the world coast from floating wastes by 2020. He explained how they would do it.

Eroğlu said, “one of the active activities of our foundation is waste fishing. An activity on waste holding instead of fish. We are allocating resources to fishermen from EU funds, our private Nets do not hold fish, but they catch the waste that goes on the surface. This is done without damaging the fish. It is then recycled. We have a measurement problem. You can't manage if you can't measure anything.  The world map of waste management should be used. It's not recycling, it's part of the collection. When the sun receives sea waste, the waves begin to shrink in time due to the mechanical effect. They're turning microparticles. Fish can eat mussels.  So they start joining our food chain. It's about that; cleans VIP is a project to reset granular losses. If plastics are recycled properly, it is very useful, if this system is left to nature, this leads to both waste of resources and pollution. 23% of plastics are mechanically transformed and the rest are burned and energy is generated.” quoth.
